In April 2021, the government described production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes as the “cornerstone of the Government’s campaign for an Atmanirbhar Bharat.” The ultimate goal is to make domestic manufacturing competitive on a global scale, cultivate manufacturing industry leaders, and increase exports and employment rates. A new PLI program is being developed by the Center to support local container manufacture. A portion of the savings from the PLI programs that are currently in place may be allocated toward the scheme. The government has designated Bhavnagar in Gujarat as a hub, and a few businesses have already begun functioning. A highly adept and capable committee has been established to encourage regional container production in order to enhance domestic container manufacture.
PLI Schemes to Push Shipping Containers Production
a government-sponsored initiative, highlighted the potential for containers that could serve as a means of local freight transport using an extensive network of inland waterways.
The conference was conducted, as stated by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, to explore and create an environment for container production under a government program. It also discussed how to support local container producers in a variety of approaches. The ministers also reviewed the potential for moving big cargo, such as cement, food, fertilizer, etc., during the discussion.
The government has made the decision to take strong steps to tackle the issue in light of the increasing concerns among local importers and exporters regarding a global scarcity of containers.
The Center has been working to reduce its reliance on imports for containers. A PLI plan is currently being considered. The incentive sum will be used, in accordance with the need, to attract private companies and make a container manufacturing powerhouse.
In addition to forming a committee under PLI and cluster-based manufacturing systems, the government’s initiative also introduces PLI projects for different sectors. The plan may be announced in the budget for FY24.
